Animal Health Technician
A complete clinical role, with real latitude, alongside the veterinarians.
At Hôpital Vétérinaire Métro Iberville, the animal health technician takes ownership of patient care: anaesthesia and monitoring, assisting in surgery and dentistry, sample collection and lab work. You even run your own appointments (suture removals, nail trims, vaccines without an exam) and back up the front desk. Certain veterinary acts are delegated to you, under the veterinarian's responsibility.
A day in the role
- Exam room: history, vitals, weights and vaccine preparation.
- Anaesthesia and surgery: induction, intubation, prep and multi-parameter monitoring.
- In-house IDEXX lab: sample collection, in-house tests and preparing outbound samples.
- Dentistry: scaling, dental radiographs and dental charting.
- Your own appointments: suture removals, nail trims, vaccines without an exam.
- Records (SOAP), required logs, and backing up the front desk.
What we're looking for
- An AHT diploma (or the grandparent / acquired-rights clause recognized by the OMVQ).
- Comfort with anaesthesia, lab work and surgical assisting.
- Rigour for logs, biosecurity and record-keeping.
- A team mindset and good communication with families.
- French to serve our clients well; functional English is an asset.
